How to share TikTok links anonymously

TikTok's share button doesn't give you the video's address. It mints a short link that is unique to your account and that exact share, and the person you send it to can see it came from you. There's no setting to turn this off. This page is the fix: the exact steps to send a TikTok link that says nothing about you.

The manual way

The link you get looks like https://vm.tiktok.com/ZMbqjr9q7/. The whole short code is the tracker, so there's nothing to trim on it; you need the real address behind it.

  1. Open the shortened link in a browser first, ideally a private window, and let it redirect to the video.
  2. Copy the resulting URL from the address bar.
  3. Delete the question mark and everything after it, leaving https://www.tiktok.com/@creator/video/1234567890.
  4. Send that. It opens normally for everyone.

One thing the manual route can't avoid: opening the short link to expand it pings TikTok once, from you. That's still better than the alternative, where every person who opens your link gets logged against your share, but it's worth knowing.

The one-tap way

Link Sanitizer collapses the whole routine into one move. Share the video to it from TikTok's share sheet, and it expands the short link, strips every tracking parameter on your device, and opens a fresh share sheet with the clean link ready to send.

When it matters most

Between friends, a tracked link mostly means TikTok maps your social circle and nudges friend suggestions. Somewhere public, the stakes change: posting a tracked link can tie an anonymous account back to you. Instagram links have the same problem in a quieter form; see how to share Instagram links anonymously.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a TikTok setting to share links without tracking?

No. The identifier is baked into the short link at the moment TikTok creates it, so cleaning the link afterward is the only way.

If the link is clean, can TikTok still tell them it was me?

Not through the link. The attribution rides in the share code, and the canonical video address carries none. The exception is sending inside TikTok itself: an in-app DM is attributed to your account no matter what the link looks like.

Will the person I send it to notice anything different?

Only that the link is longer and readable. It opens the same video, minus the 'shared by' attribution and the friend-suggestion side effects.

Does a cleaned link still count the view for the creator?

Yes. Views count the same. The only thing that disappears is the metadata about you.
